A GREAT CONCENTRATION AND MARCH OBTAINED THE COMMITMENT TO APPROVE A LAW FOR THE ANIMALS
La Paz, November 30th, 2007
Animals S.O.S. worked in two projects of law, in two different legislative periods. The first one (1998-2000) was not even taken in account in the agenda, the second one (2004-2005) had many observations and its treatment was stagnated due to the end of the legislative period. In the middle of the last year, with the initiative of the Delegate Jorge Silva Trujillo (MAS), we began working in a project of law which was finished in the middle of 2007, later it was presented in the Sustainable Development Commission and rejected.
Advisers of the Sustainable Development Commission, Advisers of the Delegate Jorge Silva and Animals S.O.S. concluded a project of law which was approved in big in date September 22nd 2007, its treatment in detail was postponed for November 8th, 2007, when it was approved in detail up to the art. 12th, this project had to be treated once again yesterday, Thursday, the 29th of November and to be checked in detail from the art. 13th to 24th, pitifully the lack of quorum prevented that this project was treated.
Last Friday, Animals S.O.S. called for a concentration and later march by all the mass media, to demonstrate to our legislators the need of a legal frame that sanctions the cruel acts against the animals.
Our march exceeded our expectations, although at the beginning we could not enter to Murillo Square, in a second attempt the policemen let us pass by, there we had the opportunity to speak from a megaphone toward the Palace, to ask our President for the approval of this project of law.
| At noon, when the march had already finished at the Students’ square, I received a call of H. William Chavez President of the Sustainable Development Commission, who told me about the political will of the M.A.S. to approve this law. The great quantity of people that marched yesterday to show that Bolivia has a compassionate and solidary face with animals, achieved this victory.
Love superimposed to violence, this law is a victory for those hundreds of thousands of consumption animals or work, experimentation, company or wild animals that suffer in Bolivia unjust and cruel acts for their unequal condition of animal. According to what was demonstrated this Project of Law would have the approval in the Honorable Delegates' Chamber. Now we have to work at the Honorable Senators' Chamber. In the name of those animals, we want to be grateful for the political decision of the M.A.S. to make this project possible, this law will not affect economically anybody, on the contrary it will make us more human and will dignify the authorities that nowadays govern us. Cruelty against animals is the anteroom of violence against man. Susana Carpio Ormachea
