Pet Adoptathon

Since the creation of Animales S.O.S. in 1995 became popular for being a youth activist movement. Ever since then, there has been many animal protection groups which there only work has been to print two or three publications a year, but to become a member you had to pay a fee of $20 U.S. dollars and up. These organizations which are completely uncooperative and while they were enjoying there social meetings needy animals were agonizing in the streets.

In December of 1995 through claims we discovered in Chapi K athu (a market for selling domestic and wild life animals) these animals were brought to this market in cartons one stacked on top of another without any kind of nourishment. Even though this had been happening for years no-one did anything about it. On December 5th , with the police and a television crew we entered the small warehouses and we filmed the horror that these poor animals were experiencing. The boxes barely had a height of 15cm, inside these boxes there were cats and dogs together which were covered in there own feces. We were only allowed to rescue an agonizing female dog which later died in our care. We went to a TV station and made it public, the reaction of people we generated that day was the true birth of our organization.

Since that day our first goal has been to move heart and raise consciousness in our country. Considering we are in the city that is the center of information of our country.

RIGHTS FOR ANIMALS:

After working hard for one year Animales S.O.S. from Potosi on November 2000 was able to have a city ordinance approved, which protects the treatment of domestic animals. Through out the years corrupt politicians have made large profits off of estricnina to sell to the government to poison animals on the streets of Potosi. Today this type of practice is part of the past, even though corrupt and miss informed media oppose this ordinance animals finally have a law that protects them in the city of Potosi.

ONE ACCOMPLISHMENT:

On October 30, 2000 a law was passed (410/00) which prohibits these kind of activities on live animals in private and public schools in Bolivia.
