Inspection at the "Escuela de Cóndoeres"
at Sanandita - Tarija

06.02. 2009.

n Tuesday, 2 June, a delegation of the Commission on Sustainable Development of the House of Representatives Of Bolivia, led by Rep. Claudia Paredes made an unannounced inspection at the “Escuela de Cóndoeres” at Sanandita - Tarija, to verify the compliance with Ministerial Resolution No. 217/2009, which prohibits the killing of doestic or wild animals  in the training activities of the Armed Forces.  “Animales SOS SOS and the Humane Society of Tarija (SPAT), also part of this entourage.

This visit was very important because it made clear that this issue not only in the interest of animal protection societies, but our lawmakers, the Commander of this unit said these practices would become more and that in the case of discovering that The resolution is failing, he would have to be away from their duties.

We thank Rep. Claudia Paredes for her interest in this topic, for his humanitarian commitment and its sensitivity to the voiceless.

In early April “Animales S.O.S.” applied to the Commission on Sustainable Development of the Honorable House of Representatives, show the images of cruelty and cowardice within the practice at the “Escuela de Cóndores”; our concern was compliance with the Ministerial Decree No. 0217/2009 and its real application.

After receiving us,  the committee requested a Report of Oral Request to the Minister San Miguel, that , unfortunately the Minister did not attend and, instead of him, only an advisor of these Ministry submitted a report denying these practices and claiming that the images was took five years ago.

In the visit to Sanandita, the commander of this unit contradicted these claims, asserting that the practices are not done since last year;  the evidence we collected on this inspection Yacuiba after only increased our concern, because last year the "Cayman "truck in  Sanandita Condors returned to pick up stray dogs in Yacuiba.

Representant Paredes said at a press conference to the media: "... we can only attest to what the commander told us during the visit ..." we still have doubts about the implementation of this Ministerial Resolution and hope that things will change in a country where welfare is below the political, economic and personal.
